Flower Soup

It's been perfect weather around here for making flower soup, well, perfect here and there anyway because it is Melbourne after all! I was a bit sorry I suggested it though, someone thought it was real and was insistent I had a taste for real!

Texta Paint

As homeschoolers we go through a LOT of paint, so when I saw this idea for old textas (markers), I knew I had to try it. The textas that were no longer good for drawing made pretty cool paint, we soaked them in water for a couple of days and got some wonderful colours. We ended up with heaps of paint, enough for several paintings each plus lots left over that we kept in the jars.

Keeping Her Busy

Often we have to find something to keep this little firecat busy, so that her brother can do something without it being ripped up, drawn on or just plain wrecked. Making jewelry is one thing she loves, it buys him some time and all of us a little peace and quiet!

Acorn Necklace

This was from last Autumn, we collected acorn tops, painted them, pierced them and strung them together. The necklace stayed together all of 5 minutes before a certain somebody insisted on having it and promptly pulling it apart!

The Scariest Ferris Wheel

Whenever he does something that can't be disturbed by a crazed 2 year old, we try to set her up with something similar so she feels like she is doing the same thing. Not that it lasts long before she wants to do something else but it buys him some time anyway!
lego homeschool
He loves to play with this stuff - it's Lego WeDo Robotics. You can build so many different things with it and then hook it up to the computer to program it. The software has really easy drag and drop programming and is a pretty cool introduction to this sort of thing. Lots and lots of learning wrapped up in fun.
The first program he did for the ferris wheel was way too fast, I think the poor mini figs would have been feeling very sick! He soon figured out how to slow it down and give them a nice cruisy ride though.

Easter Nests

These were really quick and easy to make, the nests are just shredded coconut mixed into melted chocolate, spooned into a lined shallow muffin tray (actually I am not sure what the tray I used is really for but it has little circles in it!) The eggs were speckled jelly bean eggs.

Play Dough

Last time we made play dough, we used this recipe -

1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/4 cup salt
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tsp cream of tarter
food colour

It worked beautifully but today we needed to make more and decided to do jelly play dough using basically the same recipe just swapping food colouring out and jelly crystals in.

I think we went a little wrong somewhere today though and it turned out stickier than we wanted, still useable though!

We tried to make icecube fish swimming in the icypoles, did not work out so well!

One of the above photos was taken with the Fuji X10, the other with the 5DII!

This is much better bigger where you can see all the water droplets in his hair. He was watering the vegie garden, then himself, as you do.

Hair by Bianca. She does not enjoy her hair being done at all, but for Bianca, her 10 year old cousin, she will stay still and let her play away!

The kids went fishing with Pa today and loved every minute of it! Jordy caught a pinky that got put back in and a flathead.

She thought he drew the playground for her to actually use! "I go down the slide"!
